Monday morning 31 December 2007
The Shule hosted the first day of putting on Tefillin of Eli Liphsatz. Mazal Tov to the parents Jeff & Atida Lipshatz, the grandparents and the entire extended family.
In celebration of this milestone a L'Chaim was held after davening.
 
Sunday morning 30 December 2007
After Shacharis a L'Chaim was held in commemoration of the Yahrzeit of Harry Ciechanowski's father.

Katanga's Annual Father v Son soccer match was held at Caulfield Park, followed by hot-dogs, spring-rolls, hot-chips & drinks for lunch. All were invited to attend and participate. Photos here

The Bris of the son born to Dr Mark & Chana Franck took place at Caulfield Beth Hamedrash (Katanga).
 
Tuesday 13 November 2007 between Mincha & Maariv
The Shule hosted a Siyum & Seuda sponsored by the Pacanowski Family in commemoration of the Yarhzeit of Mr Gavriel Yitzchok Pacanowski z"l.
Yisroel Alter Pacanowski completed the Siyum on Masechtas Moed Katan and then spoke about his how father would always greet people with genuine happiness.
Gavriel Pacanowski then began learning the first Mishna of the next Masechta, Succa.
 
Thursday Evening 8th November 2007 - Yartzeit.
To mark the yahrzeit of the late Esther Esterman obm
Mr & Mrs Hersh Yaakov Braun together with their daughter Helen Shnider wish to advise that an evening of learning will take place on Thursday evening 8th November at
305 Glen Eira Rd (Katanga).
Mincha is at 7.45pm followed by Mishnayot to be given by Rav Leor Broh followed by Maariv.

The Shule hosted the naming of Shoshana Peta (Rosie) Alden. Mazal Tov to the parents Liat & Robbie Alden, the grandparents Zvi & Rita Tamir and the Great-grandparents Mr Noach & Mrs Ilona Herbst.
 
Thursday 1 November 2007
The Shule hosted the Bris of Yitzchok Avner (Bailey Jacob) Apelbaum and the celebratory breakfast Seuda afterwards. Mazal Tov to the parents Helen & Phillip Apelbaum, the grandparents Leibisch & Fortuna Schachna and the great-grandmother Mrs Itta Schachna.
 
1 Cheshvon 5768, 13 October 2007
After davening, the Shule enjoyed a kiddish in honour of our Choson Bereishis Prof. & Mrs Michael Hasofer.
At the kiddish, Prof. Hasofer explained why Hashem chose to bestow Eretz Yisroel to Bnei Yisroel through military conquest.
 
Shmini Atzeras.
The Shule was treated to the traditional Kiddish hosted by the Gruber, Schon & Kwiatkowsky families. At the Kiddish, Michael & Liam Gruber discussed some of the reasons for the Yom Tov of Shmini Atzeras.

Shmini Atzeras Afternoon.
Katanga hosted its annual pre-Hakofos L'Chaim followed by the traditional 'Mashiv HaRuach' dance. Later that evening on Simchas Torah, the Choson Kol HaNeorim Mr & Mrs Daniel Houseman distributed chock-full lolly-bags to all the eagerly awaiting children.
 
Simchas Torah Day.
After Hakofes were celebrated with much song, dance and vigour, the Shule was treated to a kiddish hosted by our Choson Torah - Dr & Mrs Steven Rose. At the kiddish, Steven calculated some Gematrias linking Katanga to Simchas Torah. Mazal Tov. The Shule was treated to a special classical Chazonus performance by Shimon Walles.
 
Friday 28 September 2007, Second Day Succos.
Katanga once again hosted its traditional afternoon of Succa Hopping.
They meet Yossi Salamon at Shule at 4:00pm for a festive tour of various Katanga Succos.
 
Second Night Yom Tov, Thursday Night 27 September 2007 from 9:15pm.
The whole Shule was invited to attend the traditional Simchas Bais HaShoeva celebration hosted by Yisroel Alter & Miriam Pacanowski, this year in the Shule Succa.
 
Shloshim.
Monday, 24th September 2007 at 7:00pm.
The Shloshim for the late Mr Shloime Franck took place at Caulfield Beis Hamedrash followed by a Sium Mishnayos and a Seudas Mitzvah.

Shabbos, 3rd Tishrei 5768, 15th September 2007.
The traditional Shabbos Shuva Drasha was delivered by Rabbi Avraham Glick, Principal of Yeshivah College, who discussed the qualitative difference between the two motivations for doing Teshuva.

The Shule hosted the Auf Ruf of Paul Rubenstein prior to his marriage to Amber Kimel.
After davening a Kiddish was held to celebrate this occasion where both Paul and his father Colin Rubenstein explained the appropriateness of having a wedding in this period of reflection and renewal.

Shabbos Chazon, Shabbos Parshas Devorim, 21 July 2007, the Shule enjoyed a Kiddish sponsored by the Rochwerger, Jacobs & Kowadlo families in commemoration of their respective Yarhzeits. The kiddish was also to celebrate the birth of a daughter Tamara Tova to Arnold & Debra Jacobs.

Tuesday Night 3 July 2007, at the conclusion of the Fast of 17 Tammuz, a L'Chaim was held sponsored by Mrs Bettye Susskind in commemoration of the Yarhzeit of her mother.
 
Sunday 1 July 2007, the Shule hosted the Opsheron of Pinchas Yehuda Pacanowski. After davening a L'chaim was held in celebration of this milestone. Mazal Tov to the parents Yisroel Alter & Miriam Pacanowski and the grandparents, Mrs F Pacanowski and the entire extended family.
 
Shabbos, 30 June 2007, the Shule welcomed Elie, Alon, Gavriel & Netanel Lederman, who are visiting from Israel for a family Simcha.

Shabbos 1 Tammuz 5767, 16 June 2007, being Shabbos Rosh Chodesh, a guest speaker Rav Yoni Rosenzweig, Rosh Kollel of Kollel Torah MeTzion, Mizrachi addressed the Shule. He discussed how Korach's rebellion was based on the false premise of instant-anism. Yasher Koach.
 
Shabbos 1 Tammuz 5767, 16 June 2007, after davening, a kiddish was held in commemoration of the Yahrzeit of Abe Muchnik's mother and Tom May's father and in celebration of Michael Kowadlo's birthday. At the kiddish, Abe Muchnik discussed the selfish attitude of Korach. Yasher Koach.

Shabbos 16 Sivan 5767, 2 June 2007, the Shule welcomed back Yaron and Amiel Gottlieb, who have returned from Israel to help celebrate a family Simcha. Mazal Tov and Welcome Back.
 
Shabbos 9 Sivan 5767, 26 May 2007, the comfort and utility of the Shule was enhanced this week, with the delivery of 25 new rows of auditorium seats. The improved luxury and appearance they provide continues the efforts to develop and upgrade the Shule. Yasher Koach.
 
Shabbos 9 Sivan 5767, 26 May 2007, Meir Panim this year's Shule Tzedoka Project, launched on Parshas HaChodesh 17 March 2007, this week presented the Shule with a certificate thanking all members for their generous donations which in total sponsored and enabled over 1,000 meals to be delivered to needy children and families in Israel. Tuesday, 6 Sivan 5767, 22 May 2007, on first night Yom Tov, Rabbi Meir Rabi discussed the dialogue between Moshe and the Angels regarding their protest to stop Matan Torah. Yasher Koach.
 
Wednesday 7 Sivan 5767, 23 May 2007, on second night Yom Tov, Rabbi Binyomin Cohen, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah discussed the Torah approach to encouraging and disciplining recalcitrant students. Yasher Koach.

    Lag B'omer 2007
    Saturday night 5 May 2007 was Lag B'Omer and Katanga once again hosted its famous Lag B'Omer Extravaganza.
    This year's family event was highlighted by an Entertainer, GymBus, Jumping Castle, High-Striker, Bonfire, live music, hot food, salads, drinks and more.
    Commencing at 8:00pm and followed by a Kumzits, all were encouraged to attend for an all-inclusive entry price of only $5.00 per person and $20.00 per family.

    Friday Night 18 Nissan 5767, 6 April 2007, at Shule, guest speaker Eli Markin from America, addressed the Shule and discussed which exact words constitute the Shira. Yasher Koach.
     
    Sunday Night 7th Night Yom Tov, between Mincha & Maariv, David Prins addressed the Shule comparing the Exodus from Egypt with Yaakov leaving Lavan. Yasher Koach.
     
    Monday Night 8th Night Yom Tov, between Mincha & Maariv, Rabbi Benyomin Cohen, Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshiva Gedola gave his traditional address to the Shule discussing the issue of wearing Tefillin on Chol HaMoed. Yasher Koach.
     
    Tuesday 8th day Yom Tom, between Mincha and Maariv, the traditional Seudas Moshiach was held at Shule where Matzoh was eaten, wine drunk and Pesach songs sung. Yasher Koach.
     
    Over the last days of Yom Tov, the Shule welcomed Harry & Tamara Grynberg who are visiting from Israel. Welcome Back.

    Shabbos, 12 Nissan 5767, 31 March 2007, during davening, Rabbi Yossi Gordon delivered the traditional Shabbos HaGodel Drasha discussing why we no longer dip our Matzah in Charoises at the Seder. Yasher Koach.
     
    Shabbos,12 Nissan 5767, 31 March 2007, after davening, the Shule enjoyed a Shabbos HaGodel Kiddish in honour of the birth of Noa Batya Pollak. At the Kiddish, the father Daniel Pollak explained the reasoning behind the giving of the name Batya while the grandfather Joe Grynberg expressed his particular pleasure at being able to share his Simcha with the elder members of the Shule. The other grandfather Peter Pollak also expressed his thanks in celebrating the birth of a grandchild, while the great-grandfather David Grynberg conveyed his appreciation and joy in becoming a Great-grandfather.     Monday Morning Erev Pesach, the Shule hosted Siyumim, participation at which absolved the requirement to fast for Taanis Bechoirim. After the first minyan, Reb Beirish Aurbach completed a Siyum on Masechta Megilla, while after the second minyan Gary Schmidt also completed a Siyum on Masechta Megilla. Yasher Koach.
     
    Monday Night First Night Yom Tov, Rabbi Meir Rabi addressed the Shule discussing the different language employed by the Wise and Wicked Sons in the Haggada. Yasher Koach.
     
    Tuesday Night Second Night Yom Tov, Rabbi James Kennard addressed the Shule explaining why the Bracha of Shehechiyanu is not recited on the Mitzvah of Sefirat HaOmer. Yasher Koach.

    Shabbos, 27 Adar 5767, 17 March 2007, the Shule launched its special pre-Pesach Tzedoka Project for Meir Panim - a charity directly providing daily meals for needy Israeli children. Mr David Rosenbaum, Director of the Melbourne office of Meir Panim was guest speaker and provided a history of the founding and the projects undertaken by Meir Panim. At the kiddish held after davening, Mr Yankel Unfanger spoke about his long-term association with Meir Panim. Yasher Koach.

    Wednesday Night 7 March 2007, a Siyum Masechta Taanis was held in Shule in honour of the second Yahrzeit of the previous Alexander Rebbe, the Imrei Menachem ZY"A. At the Seudas Mitzva, sponsored by families Muchnik and Pacanowski, Yisroel Alter Pacanowski completed the Siyum and led the singing of traditional Alexander Niggunim. Yasher Koach.
     
    Purim Night, Motzei Shabbos 3 March 2007, an unusual crowd of spiders, ladybugs, pilots, pirates, soldiers, Chinese, clowns, ghosts, angels, devils, Minnie Mouse, Dorothy, Kings and Queen Esthers amongst others, came to Shule to hear the Megilla being read and enthusiastically generate noise at every mention of Haman's name.     Shabbos 6 Adar 5767, 24 February 2007, after davening, Family Fischer hosted a Kiddush for the Shule in honour and commemoration of the first Yarhzeit of Mr Sholem Fischer. At the kiddish, Shimi Fischer, visiting from America, spoke about his father's gentle and humble qualities and his long-standing commitment and dedication to the Shule. Yasher Koach.
     
    Shabbos 29 Shevat 5767, 17 February 2007, during davening, the Shule was addressed by Rabbi James Kennard who discussed what constituted the Book of the Covenant that Bnei Yisroel pledged to uphold. After davening the Shule also enjoyed a Kiddish in honour of it being Shabbos Mevorachim. Yasher Koach.

    Families Grynberg, Pacanowski & Muchnik hosted a Siyum and Seudas Mitzvah in Shule in honour of the Yahrzeit of the Alexander Rebbe, the Yismach Yisroel ZY"A.
    Mr David Grynberg completed the Siyum on Masechtas Rosh Hashana as part of the Daf Yomi cycle before Aaron Pacanowski began the first Mishna of Masechtas Taanis.
    Throughout the evening classic Alexander songs, tunes and niggunim were sung and Yisroel Alter Pacanowski related Divrei Torah and stories regarding Tefilla from the Yismach Yisroel.

    Thursday Morning 18 January 2007 the Shule hosted the Bris of Yitzchok Yehoshua (Zac Joshua) Belleli. In celebration a catered breakfast was served, where guest speaker Rabbi Dr Shimon Cowen discussed the significance of permanently marking our body as a sign of our covenant with Hashem. Moshe Belleli then expressed his desire for his son to follow the example of his namesake and great-grandfather Izak Ciechanowski.
